In the forearm you will find the radius (1) and the ulna (2). The humerus is in the upper part of the arm (A), a long and strong bone that connects to the elbow and articulates the forearm (B). Limbs can move in many ways, but knowing their anatomy and limitations will save us from drawing unrealistic positions (or bone-breaking poses, ouch!). Note that female hips are generally wider than male hips - one of the main body shape differences. On the back, these two dimples at the end of the spine, before reaching the buttocks, will help us identify the sacrum (2). The ilium (1) will guide you to draw the angles of the hip. On both sides you can see the ilium (2) and the pubis (3) in the front.Īs these are somewhat irregular bones, I like to simplify them by drawing a pair of discs for the ilium and the sacrum as an inverted triangle. The pelvis is located at the end of the torso, connected to the lumbar spine from the sacrum (1). The shape of the back changes following the movements of these bones. They are triangle shaped and help move the arms. In the back, you will find the scapulae or shoulder blades. Every time the arms move, they will change direction. You can think of them as shoulder support. The clavicles (3) are like a bicycle handlebar. The sternum (2) closes this structure in the front, creating, with the spine, an imaginary line that divides the body into two. You can draw it in many ways, but I like to give it an oblong shape resembling ribs (1). The dorsal spine is the part that connects to the arms. In the center of these muscles is the Adam’s apple, which is more prominent in men (4). The most visible one has an extremely long name (sternocleidomastoid!), but you can easily recognize it by its V shape, parting from the ear to the center of the clavicles (3). There are a variety of muscles that operate the movement of the head. In the neck, the cervical spine (1) is located just behind the jaw (2). Lumbar spine - a little before the pelvis, connected to the sacrum.Dorsal or thoracic spine - supports the ribs.Cervical spine - supports and provides mobility to the head.Let’s divide it up into three parts to see it better: Its form makes the pelvis and the rib cage tilt slightly. Its vertical shape differentiates humans from other species. The spine is the body’s support and also allows motion in the torso. Is there one in particular that springs to your mind? So it's not, like, "Oh, they shouldn't have done this." It's a, "Oh, here is how he interpreted it. I really like how this different art form goes. It's like getting cover art that is a different art form. You know, every time I listen to an audiobook, there are certain interpretations that are different. On the subject of audiobooks, was there ever one you listened to and heard something that was read really differently than the way you imagined? Men doing women's voices in books, and women doing men's voices as readers, a lot of them are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. It is Wil Wheaton but I- I do like Graphic Audio because they use women for women's parts, men for men's parts, which is really helpful. But I actually love straight reads, like I like Wil Wheaton's reading, where there's very minimal voices. I'm glad- I mean I want to sell as many of them as we can because there are some people who just love them. ![]() I, personally, love that they are available but I find them kind of distracting when I'm listening to them. If I may, how do you feel about Graphic Audio? Which is why I asked for him on my books. It is Michael Kramer, who did the Wheel of Time books. And that's dangerous.ĭo you have a favorite narrator that you. I don't listen to them for long because I will find myself wanting to change things. I do think Michael did a fantastic job.ĭo you ever listen to your own audiobooks? So it's already a challenge in that respect. So you can have a character who kind of has a light Cockney accent or something like that, but it's not our world so it can't exactly mimic that accent. I intentionally used themes that make it an Earth parallel, which is different from my other worlds. I'm writing in a world that isn't our world, but the Mistborn world is a bit of an Earth analogue. ![]() So while I was writing the book, I was thinking in the back of my mind, "I really hope that poor Michael can pull this off." It was a lot of fun to write Wayne's accents. ![]() The thing is, I'm not good with talking in accents myself-I can hear them in my head, but I'm atrocious at trying to do them. Did you have a sense when writing the book that these could be challenging-and rewarding-scenes when read? Wayne's ability to mimic and create accents is used to great effect in the book, and Michael Kramer really shines in bringing these accents to life in the audiobook. ![]() Today, that small store has metamorphosed into one of the largest retailers of home improvement articles globally. Why Are Shapes Key To Development? 1) Math Tracing books provide additional writing practice that will come in handy when they are older. But before we get to that, let’s take a look at what makes shapes so important for kids’ development. While your child is coloring, talk about the shapes on the page just as you would talk about the colors they are using. ( Learn all about the benefits of coloring here!) Plus you get work on sitting still and focus skills.Ĭoloring is a childhood staple that is full of benefits. Then cut the shapes out and let your children sort!Ĭoloring books and shape workbooks are a wonderful way to work on shapes. Grab some blocks or other key shapes and trace them onto a shoebox or other box. These sorters practice shape recognition, problem-solving skills, and spatial relations, all in one little toy. (In fact, Ali and Sammy’s favorite shape sorter came from Walgreens for about $5.) But if you want to make it more specific, try cutting shapes out of construction paper. Regular household items and kid toys come in all shapes. You don’t need anything special for this. Preschoolers can look for more than one shape at a time, adding in sorting practice along with the shape practice. It is easier to focus on one shape at a time with toddlers. I have my children gather up anything that is triangle shaped, or circles.
